The Battle of New Orleans is often cited as one of the greatest American victories in the War of 1812.
It is also often mentioned as an infamous battle that took place after the end of the war, although the title is only half true.
It is true that the battle, which took place on January 8, 1815, took place after the signing of the Treaty of Ghent in Belgium on December 24, 1814, and even after the treaty had been ratified by Prince Regent (future King George IV), but President James Madison and the US Senate did not ratify On the treaty until February 16, which allowed the battle to extend and record significant losses despite the armistice.

The Battle of Prague took place before the end of the Thirty Years' War. Most of Europe has been embroiled in a long-running struggle over religious and political differences.
While a delegation of representatives from different countries met in Münster and Osnabrück, the Swedish army laid siege to Prague.
Peace talks and ongoing battles continued for months. Diplomatic actions led to a series of treaties known as the Peace of Westphalia, which changed European political boundaries and enhanced continental recognition of certain religious freedoms.
Although the Swedish delegates signed the Treaty of Osnabrück on October 24, 1648, to end hostilities with the Holy Roman Empire and its allies, Swedish forces fought for another eight days before the armistice reached Prague on November 1.

The Pontiac Rebellion was not a single battle, but rather several historical battles that lasted for seven years (1754-1763).
Conflict raged all over the world, but in North America in particular the French colonists found themselves outnumbered by the British.
Therefore, they recruited heavily to obtain reinforcements from groups of Native Americans who had grievances against the British colonizer.
When the war ended and France ceded much of its former territory to Britain, the policies of the colonial rulers upset the Native American tribes.
Warriors from the Great Lakes region and adjacent regions joined together to force the British out of their lands under the leadership of Ottawa's chief, Chief Pontiac.
Hostilities escalated over 16 months and led to a series of negotiations from 1764 to 1766. In one of the conflict's most troubling moments, British soldiers reportedly gave Native Americans blankets contaminated with smallpox in an attempt to infect them. Many of them died of disease.

After Andrew Jackson's forces were defeated at Chalmette Plantation outside New Orleans, a British unit of at least 3,000 soldiers sailed east and settled on a fort on the edge of Mobile Bay.
Troops surrounded the fort until its commander surrendered on February 11, 1815, but the victory was short-lived. A few days after the British took control, the Treaty of Ghent finally spread south, and Fort Boyer was returned to American forces.

Although Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his army at Appomattox on April 9, 1865, and newly appointed President Andrew Johnson announced an official end to hostilities on May 10, the American Civil War continued in Texas.
Near the Gulf port of Los Brazos de Santiago, Union and Confederate forces clashed for approximately 24 hours during May 12 and 13, 1865.
Curiously, the battle interrupted the lasting peace in Texas. Earlier in the year, the warring parties recognized the futility of continuing the fighting and assumed an informal peace.

Have you heard of the Japanese who continued to fight after the end of World War II for 29 years? It is Hiroo Onoda who was fighting with his comrades on the Philippine island of Lubang, and the orders were clear: No surrender at any cost!
Onoda and three other soldiers survived and refused to surrender to the Allied occupation of the island beginning in 1945, and hid in the mountains for the next three decades, engaging in guerrilla activities with local officials.
Immediately after the end of the war and again in 1952, leaflets were dropped from the air over the mountains to let Onoda's men know that the war was over, but they concluded that the news was a ploy by the Allies and refused to surrender.
In 1974, after Onoda's three comrades surrendered or were killed and Onoda himself was presumed dead, a Japanese college student picked up his backpack in the area and discovered Onoda.
But Onoda was still skeptical and loyal and refused to surrender until his former commander gave the order. Major Yoshimi Taniguchi, who was working as a bookseller, flew to the Philippines and formally relieved Onoda of his duty.
Onoda was not the only one who continued to fight even after the war ended. Shuichi Yokoi was discovered in Guam in 1972, and Teru Nakamura in Indonesia 9 months after Onoda's release.

The Battle of Etter Castle is considered one of the strangest historical battles that took place after the end of World War II.
Five days after Hitler committed suicide in his bunker in Berlin, German anti-Nazi soldiers joined American forces to defend an Austrian fortress against the 17th Waffen-SS Panzergrenadier.
The castle, a Dachau concentration camp prison, housed notable French prisoners during the Nazi occupation, including former Prime Ministers Paul Renaud and Edward Daley, former army chiefs General Maxime Wigon, and General Paul Gamelin, and many other important figures.
The battle gained its peculiarity not only because it happened after the end of the war, but because it was the only time American and German soldiers fought alongside each other against a common enemy and the only time that American forces had defended a medieval fortress against an overwhelming attack.
